LSK Peaceful Protest Condemning Utterances by the Head of State against The Judiciary

Members of the Law Society of Kenya turned up in large numbers for the LSK Peaceful protest march dubbed #ConstitutionalSafeguards held on Friday 12th January 2024. The aim of the protest was to reaffirm our oath and the commitment of Advocates to defend the independence of the Judiciary, compliance with court orders and express our strong condemnation of the President’s remarks undermining the independence of the Judiciary.

In Nairobi, members converged at the Supreme Court of Kenya then proceeded to Parliament buildings, to the Office of the President along Harambee Avenue to Taifa Road and then back to the Supreme Court where the President addressed members. Other branches participated in the march in their various towns including Coast Branch, West Kenya and South West Branch amongst others.

Members came in robed and donned purple ribbons as a symbol of our commitment to upholding the principles enshrined in the Constitution. The Law Society of Kenya shall not relent in protecting the sanctity of the legal system and upholding the Constitution of Kenya.
